INTRODUCTION
Veteran’s offer us an example of what it means to live a life that is on mission and ready to sacrifice. In this episode, Milo and Olivia look at some lifestyle lessons we can learn from those who have served our country honorably and how their example can encourage our walk with God.
A LIFESTYLE OF SERVICE TO OTHERS
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. - Mark 10:45
Veterans Day reminds us of the importance of serving others, reflecting Jesus' call to serve. Christians can honor this spirit by contributing to their communities and caring for those in need.
Reflection Question: Where do you find your self being served by others? Where has God put you and asked you to serve?
A LIFESTYLE OF SACRIFICIAL LOVE
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. - John 15:13
Veterans make significant sacrifices for the sake of their country and fellow citizens. This emphasizes the value of selflessness and love for others.
Reflection Question: when this life of conflict and suffering is over, what marks will you have?
A LIFESTYLE OF HOPE AND HEALING
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. - Psalm 147:3
Many veterans deal with the aftermath of their service, including spiritual, emotional, psychological, relational, and physical scars. To overcome these scars, they choose a path that reaches out for help and seeks to embrace the life they have today.
Reflection Question: Where are you letting God heal your wounds?
A LIFESTYLE OF TRUST IN DIVINE INTERVENTION
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. - Isaiah 43:1-3
Many veterans attribute their safety and the outcome of their missions to God's protection and guidance.
Reflection Question: is your life dependent on the outcome or the mission Christ has for you?
