TEXT: 1 Samuel 23:1-13
ASSUMPTIONS
You want to live for a purpose greater than yourself
You will face adversity as you live into that purpose
Your level of focused effort will expose the insecurities of others
THREE QUESTIONS TO ASK GOD WHEN FACING BATTLES
1. Is this the battle you have next for me?
Therefore David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” - 1 Sam 23:2 (ESV)
Discerning the next battle shapes the focus of your effort
Discerning the next battle clarifies how your strengths will provide advantage
Discerning the next battle clarifies how your weaknesses will be exploited
2. Lord, what battle is coming to me?
Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O Lord, the God of Israel, please tell your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will come down.” - 1 Sam 23:11 (ESV)
Your existence will expose the insecurities of your enemy
Your efforts as a Christ follower will invite battles you don’t want
Your efforts as a Christ follower will invite battles that could harm others
3. Who will betray me?
Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul?” And the Lord said, “They will surrender you.” - 1 Sam 23:12. (ESV)
Your past victories aren’t enough to insulate you from the insecurities of your those you protect and rescue
People you have served may be for your cause, but not for your King
We serve from a place of obedience, not from a place of appreciation
